From next Monday, February 6, until Wednesday, February 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (local time), will take place the First On-site Congress of the World Philosophy Club: Political Philosophy and Eradication of Poverty at the Central Library in Tecla Sala de L’Hospitalet -Barcelona, Spain.

The head organizer, Ms. Ana Lacalle Fernández (together with Francisco Tomás González Cabañas and Jorge de la Torre López from the “Desiderio Sosa” Center), confirmed the schedule of presentations that will include prominent participants such as Jordi Riba, Luis Martínez de Velasco, Alejandro Álvarez Carrizo, Joám Camos, Juan Carlos Fernández Naveiro, among other philosophers and administrative and political authorities of Catalonia who will be part of the meeting.

The opening will be in charge of the director of the Correntina School of Thought, Francisco Tomás González Cabañas, on Monday, February 6, and the closing on Wednesday, February 8, by Ana Lacalle and Jorge de la Torre López.

“Poverty is a social, economic state supervened on the individual, either by his place of origin or by subsequent contingencies. In any case, it is a problem of a social-political nature and must be approached from there. The issue is complex and far-reaching because multiple factors interact in this state. Philosophy has not given priority to the problem of poverty, perhaps because it has not been considered an object of its own. Still, something of a pragmatic nature that should be thought of and resolved by politics,” the organizers of the event point out.

“However, the will to dedicate a philosophy congress that for the first time has poverty as its core responds to the suspicion that perhaps there are elements to be unveiled and reconceptualized in which philosophy can play a relevant role.”
